Electronic steering locks are becoming more frequently installed on many vehicles. As these units are electronic, they can fail. Many companies bypass the steering lock when they do, but did you know this is an MOT failure.
At London Car Locksmith we do not bypass steering locks as this will put our customers in a vulnerable position with their insurance company and DVLA.
MOT information
The inspection of the steering lock only applies to passenger cars with:
A steering lock fitted as standard by the manufacturer, and four or more wheels, and not more than 8 passenger seats excluding the driver’s seat, and first used on or after 1 September 2001
A steering lock mechanism inadvertently engaging
Steering lock mechanism missing or fails to engage
An electronic steering lock system malfunction warning displayed.
Many common problems of ESL and ELV failure include:

Quick tip: If you seem to be having the symptoms as above it may be a simple software update. If its on and off you could need a replacement lock, we recommend in doing this as soon as possible as this may leave you stranded away from home.
