ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK REPLACEMENT
AUTO ELECTRICAL SERVICE
HELPING YOU WITH ELV REPLACEMENT
Electronic steering locks are becoming more frequently installed on many vehicles. As these units are electronic, they can fail. Many companies bypass the steering lock when they do, but did you know this is an MOT failure.
At London Car Locksmith we do not bypass steering locks as this will put our customers in a vulnerable position with their insurance company and DVLA.
The inspection of the steering lock only applies to passenger cars with:
A steering lock fitted as standard by the manufacturer, and four or more wheels, and not more than 8 passenger seats excluding the driver’s seat, and first used on or after 1 September 2001
A steering lock mechanism inadvertently engaging
Steering lock mechanism missing or fails to engage
An electronic steering lock system malfunction warning displayed.
Many common problems of ESL and ELV failure include:
Vehicle not starting
Key doesn't turn in the electronic ignition switch (Mercedes)
Click noise from steering lock but key not turning in ignition (Mercedes)
